General Preface
Case teaching, also known as situational teaching or situational simulation teaching, is a highly promising teaching model in contemporary education. It aims to achieve certain teaching objectives by guiding students to read, analyze, evaluate, and discuss cases provided by the teacher, thereby drawing conclusions or finding solutions to problems. This process deepens students' understanding of relevant principles and systematic mastery of scientific knowledge, promoting their development in terms of ability and quality. The essence and core of case teaching lie in allowing students to gain insights, gradually and an effective line of thinking and logical approach that suits their personal characteristics, and to apply theory to practice, deepening theoretical learning. This truly achieves a of learning theory, understanding theory, and applying theory, transforming theory into methods and morality, and comprehensively improving students' qualities and abilities.
Extensive practice has proven that case teaching is a relatively ideal teaching approach that aligns with the cognitive patterns and psychological needs of college students. Its flexible application in the teaching practice of "Two Courses" () undoubtedly provides new opportunities for the reform of "Two Courses" education and teaching. It will undoubtedly become a new breakthrough in deepening the reform of teaching methods for "Two Courses," alongside multimedia teaching.
The compilation of this series of case teaching books fully applies this new teaching paradigm to the teaching of "Two Courses." By describing typical examples and practical activities from real life that are related to the content of "Two Courses," and through systematic processing and refinement, auxiliary teaching materials are created. The compilation and use of this series of case teaching books will undoubtedly help to enhance the targeting, effectiveness, attractiveness, and of "Two Courses" education and teaching; help to stimulate students' strong interest in learning all courses of "Two Courses," mobilizing their initiative and enthusiasm; help students deepen their understanding of the teaching content of each course, promote the implementation of the principle of linking theory with practice in teaching, making teaching more,,; and help to promote the bidirectional interaction of "" (teacher and student) in teaching and learning, enabling students to independently analyze and solve problems using Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the "Three Represents" important thought, thereby transforming from (forced education) to self-education. This will enable students to generalize from one instance to another, establish a scientific and reasonable structure and model of thinking, and develop strong practical skills.
Currently, case teaching has been widely applied and promoted in fields such as management, law, and medicine, achieving good teaching effects. The introduction of case teaching into the teaching of "Two Courses" is still in its initial stages of exploration, but the prospects are very broad.
The compilation of this series of case teaching books strictly follows the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of 'Two Courses' in Ordinary Universities" promulgated by the Ministry of Education in March 2003, fully implementing the "Three Represents" important thought. At the same time, it closely aligns with the teaching content of each course, adhering to the requirements of effectiveness, guidance, targeting, and practice. It follows the growth patterns and psychological needs of college students and adopts the corresponding format based on the "Recommended Teaching Materials for 'Two Courses' in Ordinary Universities" published by China Renmin University of Political Science and Law.
During the compilation of this series of books, the Party Committee and administrative department of Dalian University of Technology attached great importance and provided strong guidance. The leadership of the Academic Affairs Office of the university showed great concern for the compilation and publication of this series of books, listing it as a key supported project for teaching reform in 2004. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Dalian University of Technology selected highly experienced and academically skilled teachers to participate in the compilation of this series, enabling it to be completed according to the predetermined goals. We sincerely thank all the leaders, experts, and colleagues who this series of books.
At the time of the publication of this series of books, it coincides with the 55th anniversary of the founding of Dalian University of Technology. The university has been designated as a university directly under the Central Organization Department and has initiated the second phase of the "Project 985" program, laying a solid foundation for further development. The organization of this series of books not only showcases the overall level of "Two Courses" education and teaching at Dalian University of Technology but also promotes the development of humanities and social sciences at our university.
