Features: This book is a reading comprehension textbook for university Japanese majors, developed based on "University Japanese Basic Reading" (published by East China University of Science and Technology) to further expand students' reading volume and improve their reading skills. It is suitable for use in the second semester of the second year of university, as well as for junior college students and self-learners with equivalent language proficiency as supplementary reading material. The book consists of 20 lessons, each including the following 5 sections:
Text – All selected from original Japanese publications, including novels, essays, reviews, and various other genres, with many contributions from renowned authors. It aims to align with the reading interests of young learners, emphasizing Japanese-style wit and humor to inspire enthusiasm for reading.
Vocabulary – Word definitions in each lesson focus primarily on the vocabulary used in the text, supplemented with one or two common meanings. The part-of-speech marking follows the conventions of general Japanese-Chinese dictionaries.
Notes – Provide targeted explanations for new linguistic phenomena, difficult points, or easily misunderstood sections in the text, accompanied by corresponding translations and illustrative examples where necessary.
Poetry Appreciation – Designed to expose learners to another dimension of Japanese expression, allowing them to further appreciate the beauty of the language. The poems are mainly selected from major Japanese literary websites that publish, republish, and allow reproduction of poetry collections, featuring simple and accessible modern Japanese short poems.
Reading Comprehension Exercises – Most reading passages are chosen from public examination questions of various Japanese language tests in Japan, with difficulty levels comparable to the main text. They serve as self-assessment tools for learners to evaluate their reading skills. Solutions are provided at the end of the book.
