This book carefully selects 29 pieces of Chu Ci, providing detailed annotations and translations. The annotations are thorough and precise, while the translations are faithful and beautiful, accurately conveying the captivating charm of Chu Ci and serving as an ideal reading material for studying it. This series of ancient "Classical Poetry and Prose Masters" is curated by Zhonghua Book Company, selecting renowned works of poets and writers from various dynasties, compiling the latest research findings to provide a systematic and accessible collection of poetry and prose that appeals to both scholars and general readers. The publication was specially commissioned with over 30 experts and scholars from more than 20 institutions across the country.
1. The primary criterion for selecting works is their popularity, while also considering their ideological and artistic value.
2. The selected texts are primarily based on authoritative versions, especially those that have been meticulously compiled, without the inclusion of collation notes. General variations are not explained, while significant variations are noted in the annotations.
3. Each book includes an "Introduction" before the main text, offering a comprehensive and insightful overview of the selected authors, works, and related content.
4. Works and their annotations are arranged chronologically. Those that cannot be dated are grouped together after the dated works.
5. Below each poem or prose piece, there are "Annotations" and "Explanations." The explanations provide background information, themes, writing techniques, artistic features, and introductions to relevant names, places, and reigns, depending on the specific context. The annotations are tailored to the needs of general readers, with particular attention to explaining allusions, specialized terms, and difficult phrases. Uncommon characters are annotated with Pinyin, and confusing sentences are elaborated upon.
Through reading this series, readers can gain a comprehensive and systematic understanding of outstanding poets and works in the history of Chinese literature, fostering spiritual resonance, enriching life's interests and experiences, or providing models for learning and imitation, which is beneficial for poetry and prose creation.
