Features: Introduction to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), also known as environmental hormones, refers to substances released into the environment through human production and living activities that affect the normal hormonal functions in humans and animals, thereby impacting the endocrine system. These are harmful chemicals with estrogen-like effects on living organisms. Humanity is taking active measures to prevent and control the production and spread of EDCs. This book systematically introduces the concept, sources, types, hazards, and prevention methods of EDCs. It mainly consists of three parts: Part 1 introduces hormones, environmental hormones, types of environmental hormones, major hazards of environmental hormones, and research methods for environmental hormones; Part 2 provides an introduction to typical types of environmental hormones, including their main physicochemical properties, major sources in the environment, main transformation and fate in the environment, major pollution incidents caused by them in the environment, mechanisms of harm to organisms, and key issues of concern regarding these types of environmental hormones; Part 3 focuses on how people can prevent the harm of environmental hormones to the biosphere, including the use of science and technology for treatment, the development of environmental management and regulations, and the restriction of individual behaviors. This book can serve as a reference for college and university teachers and students, research institutions, or professionals specializing in environmental protection, as well as for non-professionals concerned about environmental protection, especially those concerned about the harm of environmental hormones to the biosphere.
