Quanyuanwen basically collects articles written in Chinese during the Yuan Dynasty, including poetry, ci, classical texts, ballads, proverbs, fiction, as well as all other prose, parallel prose, and fu. The time frame for the collected writers follows the principle of extending from the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. Writers from the former Jin territory are limited to those active up to the second year of the reign of Jin Aizong (1234), while writers from the former Southern Song territory are limited to those active up to the second year of the reign of Southern Song Zhao Bing (1297). The lower limit is set at the twenty-eighth year of the reign of Yuan Shundi (1368).
