Features: Shenzhen is located in the central and coastal region of Guangdong Province, to the east-northeast of the Pearl River estuary. It spans 81.4 kilometers from east to west and 10.8 kilometers from north to south (the shorter dimension). To the east lies Dapeng Bay, to the west it borders the Pearl River estuary, to the south it adjoins Hong Kong, and it touches the Kowloon Peninsula. It is separated from the New Territories of Hong Kong by a river, earning the nickname "Hong Kong's backyard." The total area of the city is 2,020 square kilometers. With a population of over 5 million, most of whom are migrants, Shenzhen is known as a "city of immigrants." A 129.7-kilometer-long Special Zone Management Line runs between the Special Zone and the non-Special Zone areas of Shenzhen, with border inspection stations at the entrances and exits of the seven main roads leading into the Special Zone. The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was established in 1980, stretching from Beizi (Beizi Point) in Dapeng Bay to Anle Village at the Pearl River estuary in the west, and bordering the New Territories of Hong Kong to the south. To the north lie Wutong Mountain and Yangtai Mountain ranges. It covers a total area of 327.5 square kilometers, including Luohu District, Futian District, and Nanshan District, making it the largest Special Economic Zone in China, excluding Hainan Province. Shenzhen's terrain is higher in the southeast and lower in the northwest, primarily consisting of low-lying hills and gentle plateaus, with a coastal plain in the western coastal areas. Shenzhen has a coastline of 230 kilometers, abundant marine resources, and excellent ports with favorable maritime access conditions.
