Publish Date: 2004-07-01
Features: This book includes three main content areas: Rhythm, Intervals and Chords, and Melody. These three components work together and complement each other, forming an organic whole. It is best for each lesson to cover all three areas, or to focus on one area in particular. The content of this level is mainly divided into three parts:
- The "Rhythm" section includes rhythms containing thirty-second and sixty-fourth notes, mixed rhythms of five, seven, eight, nine, and eleven beats, and compound meters with the same or different unit beat values.
- The "Intervals and Chords" section includes secondary dominants, secondary leading-tone chords, major seventh chords, altered dominant chords, and modulations differing by one or two key signatures.
- The "Melody and Mode" section includes modulations differing by three or more key signatures, half-step melodies, and C clef (one-line, two-line, four-line).
The above content is presented in various forms within the examples of "Rhythm, Melody, and Harmonic Progression in Two, Three, and Four Voices." Training is completed through comprehensive exercises in "listening, singing, writing, thinking, playing, and composing." The examples cover styles from different periods, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and Chinese music (all examples not are original compositions by the authors of this level).
This textbook is primarily intended for students in music conservatories and normal universities' music departments. It can also serve as a reference book for professional musicians and primary school music teachers during the initial teaching phase.
