Features: This book strives to reflect the latest achievements and developments both domestically and internationally, including China's inflation in recent years; the evolution of international banking regulatory systems; reviews on financial liberalization; reviews on various models of contemporary financial crises, and so on. It aims to enable students, through learning, to briefly and concisely understand and master the general principles of the financial services industry and its more recent practical developments. The content of this book has been extensively updated. At the same time, it attempts to strengthen its theoretical depth. For example, Chapter 5 explains some theories of financial intermediation; in Chapter 11 "Money Supply," the concept of base money is presented in a relatively new way, not only including the central bank's cash liabilities and commercial banks' required deposit reserve deposits but also commercial banks' excess deposit reserves. By significantly increasing the number of sidebars, the book's informational content has been enhanced while also incorporating necessary cutting-edge issues. To facilitate teaching for instructors and learning for students, we have added nearly a hundred sidebars that highlight both informative and debatable questions, while also reflecting changes in actual conditions. Many of the sidebars in this book also serve as effective supplements to the corresponding main text.
