Lao Qiong's comics are "thought-provoking," not just for venting. Sometimes they force you to adjust your worldview, and sometimes they don’t let you easily escape. Lao Qiong’s comics seem to lack "simple laughter." After laughing at Cai Tian, you realize you’re laughing at yourself: If you sympathize with Cai Tian, you discover you’re pitying yourself too. — Chan Hong-chi
Comics are the dreams of youth, the windows of middle age, and the shelter of old age. Comics are the rainbow that suddenly appears after the rain, in the blue sky of life. Comics contain the awkwardness of being lost between progress and retreat, the hesitation of wanting to speak but holding back, and the shyness of glancing left and right. Of course, comics also hold hidden emotions, unforgettable old grievances, new worries, and the innocence and embarrassing moments of childhood. Comics are a miniature and true reflection of life, and even the smallest, laughable moments in daily life. A person who loves comics understands the joy in life and also possesses the ability to laugh at themselves. These are the qualities needed to survive in the e.
My comics are always closely tied to reality. In my comics, characters shift between genders and ages—whatever they want to be, they can. When I’m in a good mood, I’ll draw a woman in love; when I’m childish, I’ll hide in the role of a little kid. I really enjoy the transformation of characters. To me, children are a rebirth, a hope, and a dream. "They" contain all the unknown possibilities, and I deeply respect children. Drawing comics keeps me from growing up, from wanting to grow up, and from wanting to grow old! After drawing comics for a long time, I believe I have a very, very innocent heart.
