Features: According to the "Practicing Physician Law of the People's Republic of China," China officially held its first national practicing physician examination in November 1999, marking the establishment of the national physician examination system and elevating the standardized management of the physician workforce to a new level. The practicing physician examination covers a broad scope and extensive content. To help candidates effectively review during their busy clinical practice, enabling them not only to recall forgotten knowledge but also to refresh and expand their understanding while appreciating the requirements of physician practice, the National Medical Examination Center of the Ministry of Health commissioned the China (China Medical University Press) and Beijing Medical University Press to organize over 100 experts from various medical schools across the country (including local and military institutions) to compile the "National Medical Examination for Practicing Physicians (Assistants)" series of study guides based on the "National Medical Examination Syllabus" issued by the Ministry of Health. The key features of this book are: based on the examination syllabus, grounded in standardized teaching materials, and focused on clinical competence, emphasizing the comprehensive application of knowledge and theory. During the writing process, under the guidance of the National Medical Examination Center, the experts repeatedly reviewed the content to ensure the book's scientific rigor, applicability, and authority. To align with the categories of the physician examination, this series of books is divided into six volumes: "Clinical Physician (Assistant) Examination Guide," "Dental Physician (Assistant) Examination Guide," and "Public Health Physician (Assistant) Examination Guide."
After several years of practice in the physician examination, candidates who have used this study guide have expressed great benefits and consistently praised it, believing it will still be helpful during their early years as resident physicians. To better adapt to the new realities following China's entry into the WTO, reflect the requirements of health services for physicians, and meet the 21st-century medical talent cultivation goals proposed by international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Medical Examination Committee organized relevant experts in December 2001 to comprehensively revise the "National Medical Examination Syllabus for Practicing Physicians (Assistants)." The revised syllabus further emphasizes the comprehensive requirements for physicians, stresses the shift in medical paradigms, the concept of patient-centered and legally compliant practice, and the cultivation of clinical thinking and problem-solving skills. It focuses on practical application and strengthens the comprehensive and integrated assessment of physicians' knowledge, abilities, and qualities.
To meet the requirements of the new syllabus and satisfy the needs of candidates, the National Medical Examination Center again commissioned publishers to organize experts to update and supplement the "National Medical Examination for Practicing Physicians (Assistants)" series, ensuring it more fully and accurately reflects the knowledge content required for the examination. The "National Medical Examination for Practicing Physicians (Assistants)" (Second Edition) is currently the only examination guide compiled in accordance with the new syllabus. We hope that its revision and publication will not only assist candidates in successfully passing the examination but also make positive contributions to the development of medical education and the medical profession in China.
