Features: Diabetes is a common disease among middle-aged people, and its incidence rate has been on the rise year by year. Diabetes is an endocrine and metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, caused by various etiologies. Hyperglycemia is a systemic disease resulting from absolute or relative insufficient insulin secretion, posing a serious threat to human health after cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Its typical symptoms are "three more and one less," and in severe cases, it can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis or other types of metabolic disorders. Complications include acute infections, tuberculosis, atherosclerosis, renal and retinal diseases, and neuropathy, among others.
Dietary treatment for diabetes is guided by traditional Chinese medical theory, integrating natural foods with natural medicines organically. It preserves the nutritional benefits of natural foods while also providing the disease-preventive and therapeutic effects of medicines. Generations of medical experts have advocated the principle that "dietary therapy is better than medicinal therapy." The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon also emphasizes: "Grains are for nourishment, fruits are for assistance, livestock are for sustenance, and vegetables are for supplementation," which sufficiently illustrates that dietary therapy not only supplements the nutrients needed by the human body but also improves the patient's constitution and enhances disease resistance. This achieves the goals of preventing disease before it occurs, preventing complications when illness arises, and self-treating minor ailments. This is also the purpose of compiling this book.
Adhering to the principle that dietary therapy is key, this book is divided into two parts: Part I: "Culinary Therapy," and Part II: "Medicinal Diet Therapy." The book features the cooking methods, characteristics, and effects of over 500 different types of dishes, soups, pastries, porridge, juices, beverages, and teas that are beneficial for health. These recipes are characterized by reasonable ingredient combinations, easy-to-follow procedures, and cost-effectiveness, making them highly scientific and practical.
