It was compiled to welcome the 28th session of the World Heritage Committee, which took place in Suzhou from June 28 to July 7, 2004. The atlas presents information on 29 world heritage sites in China through maps, text, and photographs. The basic data of the atlas (map base, text descriptions, and photographs) were provided by the management units of each heritage site in China, ensuring the authority and reliability of the content. The map section includes a general map, maps of the provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government where the heritage sites are located, and expanded maps of each heritage site, reflecting the geographical location and environment of the heritage sites from a distance to a closer view. The text descriptions introduce the special value and significance of each heritage site based on the criteria for their nomination, while also describing their environment and related information in conjunction with the maps. The included photographs provide readers with a more intuitive and sensory understanding of each heritage site.
