Features: This atlas consists of three parts: maps, textual descriptions, and a place name index.
Map Section:
1. Introductory maps and ocean maps, introducing basic knowledge about the world and global issues of general concern, such as celestial bodies, the solar system, the Earth, topography, climate, energy, population, transportation, culture and religion, environmental issues, countries and regions, and international organizations, totaling 17 maps;
2. Continental maps, national maps, and regional maps, which form the core of the atlas, reflecting basic political, natural, social, and economic information of each continent, its countries and regions, totaling 99 maps. Among them, the national maps are presented in the form of general geographical maps, detailing over 220 countries and regions in the world;
3. Satellite imagery, providing 8 satellite images of the world, the six continents, and China;
4. City maps, covering major cities worldwide, with as many as 120 maps.
The textual descriptions are approximately 120,000 words, briefly outlining the natural and cultural of each country and region, providing a good supplement to the maps. The text also includes national flags of each country.
The place name index includes all place names appearing in the continental, national, and regional maps, totaling about 60,000 entries, facilitating readers' queries and location identification, equivalent to a medium-sized world gazetteer. Most place names in the continental, national, and regional maps are annotated with foreign spellings, while all place names in the city maps are presented in a bilingual format (Chinese and foreign).
All foreign place names in the atlas are translated according to national standards, ensuring accurate and standardized spellings.
The atlas covers a wide range of topics and contains a vast amount of information. Due to the limitations of the compilers, omissions are inevitable, and we sincerely invite readers to point them out.
The World Atlas contains a total of 225 pages of maps, 150,000 words of textual descriptions, and 62,000 entries in the place name index.
