Features: This dictionary was commissioned by the Language and Literature Publishing House and is intended to help secondary school students correctly understand the connotations of idioms, master their usage range, and write, pronounce, and read idioms accurately. In addition to striving for accuracy, conciseness, popularization, and clarity in definitions, as general dictionaries do, this dictionary highlights three main features:
1. Emphasis on popularization while also catering to improvement. When selecting and listing entries, it expands beyond the range of commonly used idioms, including some less frequently used but potentially encountered idioms in books and periodicals. This enhances popularization and meets the basic learning and reference needs of secondary school students.
2. Novelty and a sense of modernity. This is reflected in two aspects: First, the writing format is innovative, breaking traditional conventions by adding annotations and tips alongside pronunciation, definitions, and example sentences. Second, the example sentences are mostly newly created by the authors, with some sourced from periodicals and modern masterpieces.
3. Focus on practicality, with annotations and tips. General idiom dictionaries often lack differentiation between similar idioms and do not provide guidance on usage. As a result, readers may only understand the meaning but not the proper application. The Student Idiom Learning Dictionary addresses these shortcomings of general idiom dictionaries. Among the three features mentioned above, practicality is the most important feature.
