Features: In my teaching, I mainly introduce the use of light and shadow to express structural sketching. Light and shadow are just important means to represent forms, and all tonal applications are for the purpose of depicting shapes. For example, when posing models, I pay close attention to ensuring that the lines of light and shadow transitions align with the major form contours. In teaching, it is required that the tones formed on the shapes and backgrounds must be handled according to the needs of expressing structure and composition. Any tones that serve no purpose for these two goals are simplified extensively, while the light and shadow that are crucial to structural transitions or composition are emphasized or intensified, and even added or deleted under logically reasonable conditions. Simplify the mid-tones, enhance the simplicity of the highlights and shadows, and meticulously depict the variations in the depth and softness of the light and shadow intersections to express the form contours. The portrayal of structural details should be based on thorough memorization and actively expressed rather than merely traced.
