Features: Sketching is a must for those who are eager to learn art and pursue a career in it. It is the foundation of all art. Sketching figures are an indispensable basic course for art colleges and universities in learning and training sketching, as well as a key component of college entrance exams. At the same time, the study of sketching figures serves as a transitional stage for beginners or examinees to move on to sketching human portraits. Therefore, learning and mastering the techniques of sketching figures is particularly important. The importance of learning sketching lies first in its reflection of structure, proportion, form, light and shadow, spatial relationships, and so on, which are all essential paths in learning painting. Thus, when studying sketching, we primarily learn to observe, analyze, and study the subject as a whole. Secondly, sketching is an excellent method for beginners to recognize and master objects. In analyzing and understanding the structure and characteristics of objects, the white plaster figure, under fixed lighting, produces subtle variations in light and shadow. Although it lacks complex color relationships, the expression of the three tones—“black, white, and gray”——provides beginners with an ideal condition for observing the whole, shaping volume, and depicting objects. Correctly distinguishing the relationships among the three tones is the key to learning and mastering sketching. Furthermore, sketching lays a solid foundation for learning sketching human figures. During the training phase of sketching figures, beginners can observe, analyze, and depict objects from different sides and angles under relatively fixed conditions, unrestricted by environment or time. At the same time, it helps beginners grasp anatomical knowledge, the structure and transitions of muscles, thereby furthering their study of sketching human figures. From the examination content and requirements of art programs in recent years, sketching holds a very important position, especially with figure exams accounting for a significant proportion. As part of basic education, sketching instruction has been highly valued by the majority of art professionals. From the outstanding artistic achievements and accomplishments of a batch of outstanding art talents both domestically and internationally, it is evident that their sketching skills are deeply rooted, and they have all practiced their fundamentals diligently. Therefore, it is hoped that all beginners will study diligently and master sketching techniques comprehensively.
