Features: The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is the largest sponsor of humanities programs in the United States, with its members being distinguished scholars nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. Since 1988, the foundation has recommended a set of over 300 books, "Summer Favorites," to American children and adolescents, most of which are world classics or children's classics, and many of which have received awards. In September 2002, President Bush announced the launch of a new reading initiative by the foundation, and Congress allocated $100 million over three years for this project. The premium book list features a rich variety of genres, carefully selected to highlight four key characteristics: More than half of the 20th-century contemporary foreign works make up the list, addressing the shortage of modern and contemporary literary classics in China's "New Curriculum Standards" recommended reading. In response to the current trend of overly "advanced" children's books in China, a collection of top-tier international children's picture books has been published specifically for children aged 2–8. The works include a variety of genres: novels, poetry, essays, drama, picture books, fairy tales, and autobiographies of famous figures. The novels encompass science fiction, animal fiction, fantasy, treasure-hunting stories, detective stories, horror stories, as well as realistic and romantic novels reflecting modern and contemporary life. The content is vivid and captivating; the design is exquisite, with rich illustrations. Enid Blyton was a renowned British writer. Her masterpiece, The Secret Seven, was published in the United States in 1935 and is a classic of children's literature, beloved by young readers worldwide for over half a century. The young protagonist, 14-year-old Violet, tames her beloved wild horse with unwavering determination and perseverance, ultimately winning the national horse racing championship. A film adaptation of the novel was released in 1944, starring Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor and receiving four Oscar nominations. It remains a favorite among movie enthusiasts to this day.
