Photographer Deng Wei has opened a unique artistic gateway for Chinese photography to reach the world, understand the world, and let the world understand China. I am willing to introduce Deng Wei and his art. The collection presented before us marks the 25th anniversary of Deng Wei's photographic career. This is not only a honor for a photographer but also a pride for the Chinese photographic community. Deng Wei's portrait photography is distinctive in its clear intent and meticulous composition. He often uses dark tones and low-light to highlight the features of the subjects' faces, capturing luminous moments to convey the emotions of their inner world. Deng Wei's portrait art is simple in form yet profound in meaning, possessing an irreplaceable unique charm. Deng Wei told me that throughout his years of traveling for photography, he never forgot the advice of his teachers during his student days: to take good care of the camera always, handling it gently. When traveling for shoots, he always carried his camera bag on his back to minimize the bumps and vibrations during the journey. Once, after a long 10-hour journey, upon arrival, Deng Wei's knees were already marked with bloody impressions from the heavy camera equipment. The cameras he used for shooting were not particularly advanced, but they never malfunctioned under any harsh conditions, as if to repay Deng Wei's meticulous care. In this way, they supported each other, silently contributing to the creation of Deng Wei's art.
