Features: This book can serve as a training manual and important reference for promoting the CMMI standard system, as well as a guide for process optimization in knowledge engineering enterprises based on model management theory. It can also be used by senior students, researchers, and teachers in information, communication, software, and enterprise operation management at universities. The Integrated Capability Maturity Model (CMMI) is a more suitable operational system for software process development, electronic manufacturing enterprises, high-end service industries, consulting firms, and other knowledge engineering enterprises after CMM. It integrates the operational philosophies of 6 Sigma and Total Quality Management, helping businesses gradually transition from workshop-style operations to organized, efficient, and low-cost processes. Additionally, Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute has expanded CMMI to include process-centric and assessment methods, enabling better adoption of this approach by different types of enterprises for effective operations.
This book systematically introduces various aspects of the CMMI operational system, covering two different descriptive methods, the comprehensive system framework, and the latest version of the standard, along with corresponding interpretations and operational guidelines for key processes. The book is divided into 8 chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overall explanation of the CMMI operational system, particularly its theoretical foundation, descriptive methods, and model origins. Chapters 2–5 discuss the four fundamental components of CMMI: project management, organizational process, engineering management, and support engineering, covering 25 process areas. Chapter 6 explains how organizations can implement the CMMI operational system, introducing the IDEAL model recommended by the SEI, which is a step-by-step, iterative process-centric method that can be applied to other process transformations within the organization. Chapter 7 outlines how organizations can assess their achieved maturity, presenting three different work methods (A/B/C) and the specific processes and key approaches for conducting evaluations. Chapter 8 discusses the extended operational system of CMMI and its working principles, serving as a foundation for readers to further study and improve their understanding.
