Upon completing the third volume, students can achieve the B-level requirements specified in the "Basic Requirements for English Teaching in Higher Vocational and Technical Education," and upon completing the fourth volume, they can meet the A-level requirements. This textbook is compiled in accordance with the "Basic Requirements for English Teaching in Higher Vocational and Technical Education" issued by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education. The starting level is equivalent to the current high school English graduation standard, requiring students to master the English phonetics and grammar specified in the "Basic Requirements" and recognize over 1,000 English words. They should also have received preliminary training in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation.
The "New Century English Course" is designed for students of higher vocational and technical colleges, higher general secondary colleges, as well as self-learners of English, who are graduates of secondary schools, vocational schools, or vocational and technical schools. This textbook adheres to the principle of prioritizing listening and speaking, focusing on cultivating students' ability to use English for communication, while also developing strong reading skills and covering writing, translation, and other competencies. It aims to equip students with the ability to use English as a tool to capture and obtain the necessary information, laying a solid foundation for learning various specialized English courses.
The recommended teaching hours for this textbook are 72 hours, with 8 hours allocated for each unit. Additionally, after every four units, there is a review material, with 4 hours of teaching time allocated for each review material.
