This book is a selection from the works of Zeng Guofan's disciples, translated and interpreted, with the hope of guiding readers into the treasure trove of Zeng Guofan's wisdom. However, Zeng Guofan still had his own limitations of his time and class. Today, we should stand from a higher perspective to refine and preserve the essence, turning the wisdom of the predecessors into our own resources for success.
The composition of Zeng Guofan's disciples was very diverse. There were those who joined him during his time as an imperial official, such as Jiang Zhongyuan and Li Hongzhang, as well as those who were gradually incorporated into his circle later, such as Wu Ruyun, Zhang Yuzhao, Li Shuchang, and Xue Fucheng. There were those who became disciples through the imperial examination system, like Yu Yue, as well as those who formally paid respects and became inner disciples, such as Zhao Liewen. There were also those who were not formally accepted but had the reality of a teacher-student relationship, like Liu Changyou, and those who followed him from the beginning and considered themselves disciples, such as Li Yuandu and Peng Yulin.
