Features: This textbook is compiled according to the "Basic Teaching Requirements" issued by the Ministry of Education for relevant courses, with appropriately expanded content, and is suitable for the teaching of two core courses—Mechanical Principles and Mechanical Design—for undergraduate mechanical engineering majors in higher education institutions. The textbook is divided into two volumes, containing eight parts. The first part of the upper volume closely integrates examples of several typical machines to introduce basic concepts and explain the general process of mechanical design and the knowledge structure required for it. Parts two, three, and four respectively cover the composition and analysis of mechanisms, common mechanisms and their design, and the fundamentals of machine dynamics, which constitute the main content of the Mechanical Principles course. The fifth and sixth parts of the lower volume introduce the design of working capacity and structural design for mechanical components, which are the main content of the Mechanical Design course. "Mechanical Conceptual Design" is presented as the seventh part and placed at the end of both courses, allowing it to be taught in conjunction with course design to adapt to reforms in this area. The eighth part, "Mechanical Innovative Design," can serve as content for an elective course or as supplementary reading material for students, aligning with the current trends in extracurricular science and technology activities. This book can also be referenced by graduate students and researchers and designers in the field of mechanical engineering.
