Investment Science: Basic Principles and Practices

Author: Xie Jianping
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-09-01
Features: This book strives for simplicity and conciseness in its content, divided into five parts and fifteen chapters, making it more suitable for students or teachers of technical and vocational colleges. It also appropriately condenses or adds/deletes relevant content from the author's other work, "Modern Investment Analysis and Management," to distinguish it. The changes include:
(1) Condensing "Securities Peripheral Industries" and some "Securities Trading Practices" into "Securities Market," with the addition of introductions to the U.S. and mainland Chinese securities markets;
(2) Simplifying the "Fixed Income Securities" section into two chapters: "Understanding Fixed Income Securities" and "Bond Valuation and Analysis";
(3) Combining "Market Analysis," "Industry Analysis," and "Company Analysis" in the "Options Securities" section into one chapter titled "Fundamental Analysis of Stocks";
(4) Merging "Efficient Market" into "Stock Valuation," adding a new chapter on "Taiwan's Stock Market" to cover stock trading practices in Taiwan, and incorporating the newly introduced "OTC Stocks" (over-the-counter stocks);
(5) Condensing the "Investment Portfolio Analysis and Management" section into two chapters: "Investment Portfolio Theory" and "Investment Portfolio Management and Performance Evaluation";
(6) Combining "Futures Market" and "Options Market" in the "Derivative Financial Instruments and Risk Management" section into one chapter, incorporating newly launched TAIEX futures and TAIEX options products, and removing "Other Derivative Financial Instruments."
Additionally, after introducing each important financial concept, the book guides readers to "brainstorm," and each chapter includes thought-provoking questions to help readers reflect on their understanding. The new "Mini Practice" section provides broader thinking space and exercise opportunities. Furthermore, the included multiple-choice questions from past securities-related exams allow readers to assess their knowledge and enhance their competitiveness for future exams and career advancement.
