Detective in Paris (Volume 1 and 2)

Author: Georges Simenon
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-12-01
Features: We can see that McGraw, as depicted by Simenon, has never met his mother and does not know what maternal love is. He faces misfortune and is unlucky, failing to become a doctor as he had hoped. McGraw has no children, which may well be a reflection of the author himself, as Simenon's wife Regina had never wanted to have children during the era when the character of McGraw began to take shape. From a series of works, we analyze how Simenon's psychological trauma is often reflected in McGraw: the police chief often sits alone by the light, watching the curling smoke rise from his pipe; he longs for the past, intensely cherishes memories, yet persistently yearns for happiness. All of this may well be the intrinsic connection between Simenon and McGraw.
