Features: This book does not solely describe great musicians, nor does it judge the superiority of music with obscure academic language or star ratings, nor is it intended to teach the public how to buy jazz records. Instead, it aims to vividly recreate the people and events of the jazz era through representative jazz clubs, thereby exploring the profound impact of the American jazz wave sweeping across France. This influence extends beyond music itself and touches various other art forms. Jazz's flourishing in France was not driven by the preferences of the general public but rather by the active participation of a few intellectuals, turning it into a nationwide movement. This distinction set jazz's development in France apart from its purely entertainment-focused role in American jazz, transforming it into a branch of cultural and artistic expression and becoming a subject of academic study among intellectuals at the time.
