The passage of time, since returning to Taiwan in 1975 to teach at the Department of Law and the Institute of Law at National Taiwan University, teaching the course on Obligation Law, has already been a quarter of a century. Through teaching and learning, I have gained some insights into the theory and practice of obligation law, but they are always insufficiently solid. Over the years, I have written several articles on obligation law. These articles were written due to various circumstances that sparked the idea to start writing. The writing style of these articles falls between a textbook and a specialized treatise. Overall, there are still many topics that need to be supplemented in terms of content. However, I think it may take about two more years to achieve preliminary completeness, and the volume might also be too large, which is a bit inconvenient. Therefore, I will first compile and publish the articles related to the general principles of obligation law into Volume I and Volume II. The arrangement of subsequent volumes (Volume III and beyond) will correspond to Volume I and Volume II to facilitate readers in categorizing the articles. Regarding the various parts of obligation law, the sale of goods law was rewritten and republished this April. One of the key focuses of the rewrite is its connection with the general provisions or theory of obligation law, allowing for mutual reference. Today, the publication of this book is especially thanks to my mentor, Justice Wang Zaijian, who accepted me as his disciple back then and gave me the opportunity to teach obligation law at National Taiwan University, providing me with a chance to learn. Later, I would also like to thank my doctoral thesis supervisor, Dr. Josef Esser, for whom I have infinite gratitude! Learning is endless. If there are any shortcomings in the discussions, I sincerely invite my teachers and esteemed scholars from all walks of life to kindly offer your guidance, and I will be very grateful.
