Features: The pace of modern design has accelerated with the development of society and economy. In response to the demands of the times, design art education has also developed at an unprecedented speed, leading to significant improvements in the overall level of design art education in our country. However, as modern design education in China started relatively late and lacks a solid foundation, its development has been disorganized. The curriculum system and textbook construction of design art education are cause for concern, and the teaching plans and content of design art colleges across the country are still imperfect. Integrating curriculum content with social needs through textbook development and adjusting existing issues in the curriculum is a good approach, especially given the current situation where there is an overflow of textbooks, teaching materials, and even so-called monographs, most of which lack practical applicability. For higher design art education, the immediate priority is to adjust and grasp the goals, methods, and pathways for cultivating design art talents to ensure they meet and satisfy the actual needs of society. On one hand, improving teaching levels and quality requires a complete and standardized series of textbooks; on the other hand, since design art students in universities have entered through professional exams, their understanding of the design art discipline is often limited to exam requirements, lacking a comprehensive grasp of the subject and an appreciation for its practicality and creativity. The textbooks must help students achieve a qualitative leap in both theory and application. This is precisely the original intention and writing approach behind organizing the compilation of this series of university-level design art textbooks. Continuing this approach, we followed the principles of necessity, sufficiency, practicality, and innovation in writing, striving to reflect the characteristics of design art textbooks, deepen the understanding of practical skills, and break free from the conventional models of textbooks. Relatively speaking, we aimed to enhance students' comprehension of the textbooks and artistic cultivation through numerous examples and classic design works, thereby inspiring boundless creativity and imagination. At the same time, we encouraged students to gain a fresh understanding of the humanistic connotations of skill knowledge, integrating it closely with creative and practical design methods. In summary, this series of textbooks combines knowledge, practicality, guidance, and creativity, with breakthroughs in knowledge structure, information content, and other aspects, meeting the teaching requirements of modern design art in higher education. During the writing process, we referred to a large amount of material and received support from many colleagues, for which we express our gratitude. However, due to tight deadlines and heavy tasks, some errors and unsatisfactory aspects may have inevitably occurred, and we sincerely invite criticism and corrections from our peers for improvement.
Design Introduction is a theoretical study that focuses on the fundamental principles, basic knowledge, and core issues of design. Specifically, it is the discipline that conducts specialized research and exploration into the nature, characteristics, and functions of design.
