Features: In China, more and more people are learning the trombone, especially young students, who show great interest in it. However, there are currently very limited trombone teaching materials available in the market that are systematic and suitable for beginners. Learners often rely on the personal experience of their instructors to improve. Many of them struggle to progress further once they reach a certain level because their foundation is not solid. To provide some assistance to those learning the trombone, I have written this Trombone Basic Tutorial based on decades of teaching and performing experience, particularly the past ten years of teaching amateur enthusiasts. This textbook focuses on the fundamental aspects of trombone playing—tone production and various basic skills—allowing learners to primarily achieve improvement through playing sheet music. The text portion only serves as simple guidance, intended for instructors to understand before guiding their students. During the learning process, sometimes the seemingly easy things are actually the essential things, but they are also often the easiest to overlook. I hope learners do not become impatient and neglect practicing the foundational parts. By the way, the first fifteen lessons of this textbook can also serve as preparatory exercises for the Trombone Amateur Examination Tutorial.
