Features: Geoparks are a new phenomenon that emerged in the 21st century, a pioneering effort in expanding the service areas of geological work, and a new brand in the tourism industry. By name, geoparks are parks primarily for the appreciation and exploration of geological heritage. Geological heritage may sound somewhat unfamiliar, but in fact, all mountains and waters in nature are formed by geological processes and thus belong to the category of geological heritage. Those natural parks composed of real mountains and waters are also part of geoparks. The only difference is that they were not formally named before this century. At the end of the last century, UNESCO made the decision to establish the "World Network of Geoparks." China's Ministry of Land and Resources responded to this call and launched the National Geopark Program. By early 2004, China had successfully applied for eight World Geoparks. In just a few short years, a well-structured, diverse, and widely distributed system of geoparks has emerged in China, demonstrating a bright future. Geoparks undertake three main tasks: , protecting the natural environment and geological heritage; second, popularizing earth science knowledge and promoting the scientific literacy of the entire nation; third, developing tourism activities to boost local economic development. Geoparks not only contain various geological landforms with special and aesthetic value but also often feature important cultural landscapes and richly diverse biological and meteorological landscapes. Visitors to geoparks can not only admire the beauty of mountains and waters but also enjoy a superior ecological environment. They can also gain scientific and cultural knowledge during their visits, enhancing their interest and receiving a higher level of spiritual enjoyment. However, since the principles behind the formation of mountains and waters are quite complex, many visitors lack a way to obtain this knowledge while exploring. To address this, we have organized tourism geology experts and scholars to compile this series of "National Geoparks of China." Each volume in the series focuses on a specific national geopark, providing in-depth yet accessible explanations of the formation, development, and changes of various geological landforms through vivid illustrations. Through these books, visitors can quickly uncover the mysteries of geoscience. The books also connect various scenic spots along tour routes, offering visitors convenient access to scientific and historical-cultural knowledge about each point of interest. Additionally, the books include summaries of surrounding scenic areas and service information on food, accommodation, transportation, shopping, and entertainment, providing valuable guidance for self-guided tours. We hope this series will become your trusted companion for gaining earth science knowledge and an excellent guide for exploring geoparks!
