Features: A building can shelter living beings. A library can provide a poetic dwelling. A great library, then, has the dual function of a church and a hospital, offering a completely self-sufficient spiritual home to save humanity's desperate and restless souls. Therefore, it often appears in the image of paradise and never refuses the adoration of the masses. Tianyi Pavilion is just such a place filled with divinity.
The story takes place in the early 20th century in China's library Tianyi Pavilion in Ningbo. Amidst turbulent times, Fan Zhen, the head of the Fan family, steadfastly preserves the library left by his ancestors. Shuhan is the adopted child of Fan Zhen, who possesses extraordinary memory from a young age. He falls in love with Lin Ruoyun, the daughter of his father's close friend, Lin Zhenggong, and the two promise to run away together. However, they are discovered by their families, and Ruoyun jumps in front of a moving vehicle, dying on the spot. Shuhan is left wandering the world and encounters Mingni, a mixed-race girl who bears a striking resemblance to Ruoyun.
At that time, Japan had occupied East China, and Fan Boqing, the eldest son of the Fan family, was in charge of the family's affairs, with the library's collection scattered and disorganized. Mingni, too, had been displaced by the war and found herself in a German concentration camp in Europe. Shuhan travels all the way to Europe to find her, only to discover that Mingni is suffering from a serious illness.
How many people's destinies and lives have been touched by Tianyi Pavilion? How many stories, how many loves and hates, how many joys and sorrows have converged here? In reality, it records the winding and tumultuous paths of generations of Chinese intellectuals as they face the great changes of their times and their nations. Tianyi Pavilion reflects the rich and complex inner journeys of ordinary Chinese people in the 20th century.
Tianyi gives birth to water! All things will eventually return to tranquility.
