Excerpt: Chapter 1 Introduction to Chinese Word97 Chinese Word97 is a text processing software that runs in the Windows environment. It fully utilizes the graphical and textual features of Windows and has become one of the most popular software in the Windows field. This chapter introduces knowledge related to starting Word, Word's screen, using Word's help features, and exiting Word. 1.1 Overview of New Features With the widespread use of computers, word processing software has become an essential tool for personal computers. Currently, word processing software is roughly divided into DOS versions and Windows versions. The main drawback of word processing software in a DOS environment is the difficulty in handling graphics and text files. If you need to insert images into a document, you typically have to use the post-paste method. In a Windows environment, word processing software has made solving this problem as easy as pie. After multiple revisions, Word's functionality has become increasingly refined. To facilitate user use, the following lists some of the main features of Word97: Excellent screen interface, achieving the "what you see is what you get" function. Users no longer need to memorize control codes; anything displayed on the screen will be the result printed by the printer. Word97 is a software that runs in the Windows environment, displaying menus and toolbars on the screen, avoiding the traditional command input method in the DOS environment, and allowing easy operation with the mouse (or keyboard). High-level mixed text and graphics functionality, making it easy to directly insert various formats of graphic files into documents, or even paste graphics generated by other software through Windows clipboard. Table creation is an indispensable function of word processing software. With Word, you can easily create tables. The "Table and Borders" toolbar in Word97 allows you to draw tables with the mouse, just like drawing tables with a pencil on paper. Word97 provides rich automation features, making daily work more convenient. The auto-correction feature corrects many errors as you type; the auto-formatting feature automatically applies text formats as you type; the smart typing feature automatically suggests names of dates, days, and months that have not yet been typed. The improved auto-spelling and grammar check feature further enhances proofreading. If you type an incorrect English word or sentence in the document, it will be marked as a possible error in the document. The Office Assistant provides the necessary help and suggests different help topics based on the work you are doing. Word97 provides a set of new drawing and graphics features, which can be conveniently used to enhance text and graphics with 3D effects, shadow effects, textures, pattern fills, and decorations for self-selected graphics. New web tools make it easier for users to use the global wide area network and the Internet. The hyperlink feature can link to certain internal or external web sites or files on Microsoft Office, HTML, or other file servers. Simply click on the hyperlink to go to the new target file. The new online layout view makes the document have the best screen appearance. Text automatically adjusts to better fit the current window. Users can also add background colors and textures to make the document more pleasing to the eye. 1.2 Starting Word Running Word software in Windows 95 is very simple: Click the "Start" button to open the "Start" menu. Move the mouse pointer to the "Programs" command and pause for a moment to display the "Programs" cascading menu, as shown in Figure 1.1. Click the Microsoft Word option to run Word. When running Word, the first thing you see is Word's title screen, and then it automatically creates an empty document named "Document1," as shown in Figure 1.2.
