Features: The Yupian is an ancient dictionary of China primarily composed in regular script. Compiled by Gu Yewang during the Southern Dynasties period (Liang and Chen). The creation of The Yupian was undertaken in the context where "the subtle words have ceased, and the main principles have deviated; thus, the Five Classics and Three Destructive Principles have opened to the (Xun Yi), and the six scripts and eight styles of characters have different forms in antiquity and modernity. Sometimes, different characters share the same meaning, or similar characters have divergent interpretations, leading to discrepancies among the discussions of the Hundred Schools of Thought. Character books in scroll form are particularly prone to errors, making them difficult to use for searching and prone to causing doubts. The purpose of its compilation was to 'summarize various texts, collate and store them for the heir, and establish a unified system.'
