1. This book is a specialized work that compiles extraordinary acupoints from ancient and modern Chinese medical books, magazines, and publications, hence the name "Comprehensive Collection of Chinese Extraordinary Acupoints." It focuses on introducing five aspects of each acupoint: name, location, anatomy, indications, and operation. For some acupoints that require further emphasis, additional notes are provided. It is intended for clinical reference and application by Western and Chinese medical personnel and acupuncture enthusiasts.
2. The book is divided into three parts and twelve chapters. The first part, "Fundamentals of Acupuncture and Moxibustion," consists of two chapters: "Overview of Acupoints" and "Acupuncture and Moxibustion Techniques." The second part, "Special Chapter on Extraordinary Acupoints," includes six chapters, covering numerous extraordinary acupoints in the head, face, neck, torso, and limbs. The third part, "Special Chapter on Special Acupuncture Techniques," includes ear acupuncture, head acupuncture, acupuncture at other locations, and other special acupuncture techniques. The book records approximately 2,200 extraordinary acupoints in total. For a clearer understanding of the meridian acupoints and for comparison, an overview of the 14 meridians is also provided in the first part.
3. Regarding the names of the extraordinary acupoints, while striving to respect the original works, some inappropriate names such as "Revolution" and "Anti-Rectification" were revised or removed. New names were also created based on the location and indications of the acupoints to make them more logical.
4. Regarding indications, the book generally follows the original works, but some extraordinary acupoints have been clinically verified, and discrepancies have been revised to better suit clinical use and align with actual practice.
5. Regarding operation techniques, while respecting the original works, some acupuncture methods that do not conform to anatomical principles, are not practical in clinical settings, or may lead to medical accidents were boldly revised to ensure that learners can safely master the operation and application of these acupoints.
6. During the writing process, the book referenced works such as "Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion," "Therapeutic Methods of Extraordinary Acupoints Outside the Meridians," "Acupuncture and Moxibustion Points and Therapies," "Compilation of Extraordinary Acupoints Outside the Meridians," "Atlas of Extraordinary Acupoints Outside the Meridians," "Index of Acupoints," "Red Doctor Acupuncture Therapy," "Head Acupuncture Therapy," "New Medical Therapy Compilation," and "Ear Acupuncture Therapy," among others. Additionally, extraordinary acupoints scattered in magazines and publications were compiled and synthesized into this book. Sincere gratitude is extended to the authors of these works.
7. Due to the limited number of contributors, many excellent acupoints may have been omitted. We sincerely hope that colleagues will provide corrections and supplements to make the book more complete in the future.
8. During the writing process, the book also received strong support and assistance from Liu Fang, Chen Wenming, Liu Shizhen, and Liu Zhixian of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Gratitude is also expressed to them.
