1.1 Types of Computer Hardware
You might think that with only a few pieces of equipment, a computer is just slightly more complex than your home audio system, but that would be wrong. In fact, it's just a basic combination. If you were to seriously discuss the types of computer hardware, there would be much more than just these. Listing them all would likely take days or nights to complete! However, we can broadly categorize computer hardware into the following items.
1. Input Devices (Input Device)
Input devices can read external data, such as keyboards, mice, trackballs, touchpads, joysticks, handwriting input, voice input, and light pens.
2. System Unit (System Unit)
The system unit consists of two parts: the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and main memory (Main Memory). The former executes instructions or programs, processing external data into information you need, while the latter temporarily stores data or programs.
Note: Memory is divided into Read-Only Memory (ROM) and Random Access Memory (RAM). ROM cannot write data but only reads it, and the data stored in it does not disappear even when the power is turned off. RAM can read and write data, but the data stored in it will disappear when the power is turned off. Currently, RAM includes types such as SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, VCM SDRAM, and Direct Rambus DRAM.
3. Output Devices (Output Device)
Output devices can present information to you, such as monitors, printers, plotter machines, and projectors. The image shown is the appearance of a monitor.
