Reading is one of life's greatest pleasures. The happiness it brings is primarily experienced in solitude and seclusion; the refinement it cultivates is reflected in one's speech; the talents it develops are shown in decision-making and handling matters. Because, while experienced people can certainly do things and perhaps discern minor details, overall leadership and strategic skills can only come from those who are well-read. Reading should not be nitpicky, nor should one blindly trust everything, nor should one take snippets for conversation and read out of context. It should be for reflection and thought. Some books should be selectively read, some skimmed, and a few carefully studied and read in depth, but not excessively. A few books should be read entirely and with careful attention. Some books can be read by others and summarized for you to read, but this method is only suitable for minor and second-rate books. Otherwise, reading summaries is as dull as drinking distilled water.
