Features: With the rapid development of mechanization and transportation, the incidence of limb trauma has been on the rise, becoming one of the major threats to human health. To safeguard public health, in addition to improving industrial and transportation facilities and raising citizens' awareness of preventing accidental injuries, it is particularly important to enhance the diagnostic and treatment standards of orthopedic trauma. Only through the meticulous care and treatment of medical professionals can critically injured patients be saved from the brink of death, and the function of injured limbs can be preserved, restored, or reconstructed. This is the sacred duty and responsibility of orthopedic surgeons engaged in trauma diagnosis and treatment. Over the years, colleagues in the field of orthopedics have conducted extensive clinical and research work on limb trauma, creating, mastering, and promoting advanced techniques for emergency repair of severe injuries, staged reconstruction, and rehabilitation of complex limb disabilities, enabling many patients with limb disabilities to regain the ability to live and work. At the same time, they have introduced, absorbed, and applied internationally recognized new technologies in orthopedic trauma diagnosis and treatment, which have become important tools for saving lives and restoring limb function, accumulating rich clinical experience. However, with the improvement of people's living standards, the expectations for the treatment of limb disabilities have become increasingly high, and the demands for medical care have also risen. Moreover, limb injuries are inherently diverse and complex, leaving many clinical challenges to be addressed. We need to strengthen clinical research in orthopedic trauma and promote academic exchanges in this field to learn from each other and achieve common development. Enhancing the diagnostic and treatment standards of orthopedic trauma must prioritize emergency care. Because whether injured patients receive timely and accurate treatment within the first hours after injury directly impacts the prognosis of their condition. Regarding the treatment of limb fractures, although multiple fixation methods are now available, achieving ideal outcomes requires not only mastering the necessary technical skills but also carefully studying the determination of surgical indications, the selection of timing, and proper postoperative management. Special attention must be paid to researching new methods and techniques for treating severe and complex cases that threaten limb survival and affect limb function.
In the age of information explosion, medicine, like other sciences, sees new technologies emerging every day. Concepts and techniques in trauma and its repair are evolving: the treatment of fractures is shifting from rigid internal fixation to biological fixation, and minimally invasive techniques have emerged; the repair of bone defects now includes new osteogenic factors and filling materials in addition to surgical bone grafting; the repair and reconstruction of peripheral nerve injuries have new techniques and methods, and some neurotrophic factors have also been applied in clinical practice. To keep pace with technological advancements, we must continuously update our knowledge. He who stands on the shoulders of giants can see further. We need to actively participate in academic exchanges, learn from others' advanced experiences, not merely imitate or import them, but organically digest and absorb them. Through continuous practice, we can integrate, expand, and improve, thereby enhancing our technical skills.
This book consists of four parts and 46 chapters, primarily covering General Principles, Spinal and Pelvic Injuries, Upper Limb Injuries, and Lower Limb Fractures and Dislocations. In its writing approach, it balances academic progress while emphasizing practical applications, combining the authors' clinical experience and insights to explain the essence and principles of new technologies and methods. Considering that complete knowledge requires experience from both sides, it provides detailed explanations of the prevention and treatment of potential complications alongside the introduction of new methods and technologies. Focusing on practical applications and the introduction of new technologies, the book presents an overview of orthopedic trauma, systematically discussing specific orthopedic injuries such as spinal and pelvic fractures and upper limb injuries.
