Code for Designing Oil Depots GB50074-2002

Author: China National Petroleum Corporation (Editor-in-Chief)
Publisher: China Planning Press
Publication Date: 2003-05-01
Features: This code was revised according to the requirements of the Ministry of Construction's document Jian Biao [1998] 244, "The 1998 National Engineering Construction Standard Revision and Development Plan (Second Batch)." It is based on the original national standard "Petroleum Depot Design Code" GBJ74-84. The code consists of 15 chapters and 2 appendices. The main content includes necessary regulations on aspects such as site selection, layout, storage and transportation processes, safety and fire protection, water supply and drainage, environmental protection, power supply and distribution, heating and ventilation involved in petroleum depot design. Since petroleum depots store flammable and combustible liquids, they are classified as explosive and fire-prone areas. Therefore, adhering to the principle of "safety and reliability," detailed regulations on safety and fire protection issues are emphasized. During this revision, the content related to small-scale petroleum depot design from the original national standard "Design Code for Small-Scale Petroleum Depots and Automobile Gas Stations" GB50156-92 was incorporated into the "Petroleum Depot Design Code." The 1984 edition of the "Petroleum Depot Design Code" had 211 articles (including partial revisions in 1995). In this revision, 91 articles were retained, 100 were modified, 20 were canceled, and 73 were added. Compared to the original standard, the new standard has the following three main changes: 1. Increased the total storage capacity of oil tanks for all levels of petroleum depots; 2. Raised the safety and fire protection standards; 3. Made the content more comprehensive and reasonable. During the revision process, the code drafting group conducted extensive research, summarized decades of experience in the design, construction, and management of petroleum depots in China, drew on relevant standards from developed industrial countries, widely solicited opinions from design, construction, research, and management sectors, and held multiple discussions and coordinations on key issues. Finally, it was reviewed and finalized.
