A calendar is a standard measure of time, providing a reference standard and calculation method for the duration of time in nature, the recording of days, time standards, and chronological order. The primary function of a calendar is to reflect the changing patterns of years, months, days, solar terms, seasons, and holidays.
The Wannianli (Calendar of Ten Thousand Years) was a popular lunar calendar in the Qing Dynasty, officially decreed as Yuting Wannianli (Imperially Ordained Calendar of Ten Thousand Years), where "ten thousand years" symbolized the enduring reign of the empire. Today, it is commonly referred to as the "Lunar Calendar," "Yin Calendar," "Xia Calendar," or "Old Calendar," which was used in China before the Republic of China era. The Gregorian calendar was invented by Roman Emperor Julius Caesar in 46 BC and named the "Julian Calendar." In 1582, the Julian Calendar was revised and gradually evolved into the internationally used civil calendar today, also known as the "solar calendar," "Western calendar," or "new calendar." This calendar was widely adopted worldwide in the 20th century. China began using the Gregorian calendar in 1912 when Sun Yat-sen established the Republic of China (the first year of the Republic). On September 27, 1949, the First Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference passed the resolution to adopt the "Gregorian calendar system," meaning the solar calendar.
The calendar section of this book covers the years 1901–2100 (200 years). Arranged by month, with one page per year, it uses a dual-color print for convenience, allowing readers to easily understand the solar calendar, lunar calendar, zodiac signs, weekdays, and holidays. The second part introduces common, interesting, and practical cultural knowledge, including health, wellness, and more.
