Basic Statistics is one of the foundational courses for economic and management majors in higher vocational and technical colleges, as well as adult education institutions. This book is primarily guided by the training objectives of higher vocational and technical colleges, constructs its discipline system based on the concept of "big statistics," and takes practical applications in socio-economic fields as its goal. It emphasizes the targeted, applied, and practical nature of the teaching content.
This book is based on the perspective of statistical methodology, emphasizing the combination of quantitative analysis and qualitative research. It focuses on cultivating students' thinking and practical skills, with a strong emphasis on the application and practice of statistical methods in socio-economic fields.
Starting from the requirements of teaching reform, this book addresses the issue of reduced class hours by not only selecting relevant content from statistics itself but also ensuring connections and coherence with related courses. To facilitate teaching and self-study, each chapter includes summaries, review questions, and selected case studies or reading materials to help students understand, digest, and absorb the content.
The book is divided into 10 chapters: Introduction, Statistical Survey, Data Organization, Static Analysis Indicators, Dynamic Analysis Methods, Statistical Indices, Sampling Inference, Hypothesis Testing, Correlation and Regression, and Socio-Economic Statistical Accounting. Its content covers both descriptive and inferential statistics, both static and dynamic analysis, both structural analysis and correlation analysis, as well as an introduction to some socio-economic statistical knowledge.
