Publishing Date: 2003-10-01
Features: In the southern parts of Hunan and Jiangxi in China lie the Five Mountains (Wuling Mountains) - Dage Peak, Qitian Peak, Yuancheng Peak, Doucheng Peak, and Mengqing Peak. The region south of the Five Mountains includes the entire Guangdong Province, most of Guangxi, parts of Yunnan, and northern Vietnam. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, this area was known as Lingnan Circuit. Later, Lingnan became the specific name for Guangdong Province, and was also referred to as Lingbiao and Lingwai. Due to its distance from the Central Plains and the separation by the Five Mountains, its culture, though originating from the Central Plains, also differed from it. In ancient times, especially before the Ming Dynasty, Lingnan culture lagged far behind the cultures of the Central Plains, Shandong, and Wu-Yue. This book not only collects the works of painters from the "Lingnan School of Painting" but also includes works by related painters, as well as those who influenced the "Lingnan School" and were influenced by it. In essence, it is a research collection on Guangdong painters and their works. Some painters do not belong to the "Lingnan School," such as Xu Beihong, but they had close interactions with the "Lingnan School" painters or were active in Lingnan, with stages of mutual influence in painting and artistic theories. To comprehensively study the "Lingnan School of Painting," these works have been included in this book. This book serves as a research collection on Guangdong painters and related works, offering high artistic appreciation value and providing great benefits for readers interested in fine arts.
