Essence of IPv6

Features: This book discusses various aspects of the IPv6 protocol. Its adoption in IP-based networks is rapidly growing. Approximately 30 years ago, IPv4 was developed and became a crucial network standard, but it no longer meets today's network demands and is gradually phasing out. IPv5 is the successor to IPv4. In the coming years, both protocols will continue to coexist in our networks. Many interoperability and transition mechanisms have already been developed to ensure a smooth transition process. This book covers the following topics: IPv6 headers and extended headers, as well as everything needed to understand the expansion to a 128-bit address format, ICMPv6 and its functions, such as neighbor discovery and route discovery, autoconfiguration, path MTU discovery, and multicast group management, Security elements available in the IPv6 and IPSec framework, Description of QoS elements available in IPv6, including various QoS architectures, Design of network examples and an overview of MobileIPv6, Routing protocols such as RIPng, OSPFv3, BGP, and IS-IS, Higher-level protocols such as DHCP, DNS, SLP, HTTP, and other IPv6-related protocols, Interoperability and transition mechanisms, A brief introduction to using IPv6 on different operating systems (e.g., Sun Solaris, Linux, and Windows) and routers. The intended audience for this book includes senior network professionals, network administrators, and corporate management. This book explains the new features and functions of IPv6, demonstrating how the protocol works, including packet trace files. It also outlines the market positioning of IPv6, how to register IPv6 address space, and how to get started. Even if you don’t plan to deploy IPv6 tomorrow, this book will help you determine the right time to introduce IPv6 into your company’s network.
