Features: Tagore was born in Calcutta, the capital of the Bengal region in India, belonging to the merchant and landlord class. He was of the Brahmin caste and became a Zamindar during the era of the British East India Company. By the time of his father, the family's fortune declined, and they accumulated significant debts. The short stories include six works: "Steps by the River," "Renunciation," "Surbha," "The Kabul Man," "The Starving Stone," and "The Stolen Treasure." There are two dramas, and the essays cover "Reflections," "Pastoral Life," "Social Life," "Life," "On Art," and "Philosophy."
