Features: This book mainly introduces calligraphy with hard tools. Calligraphy with hard tools, for the majority of enthusiasts, is primarily about practicality. It aims to write characters that are level, elegant, and smooth in daily work, study, and life, bringing pleasure to the eye. This should remain true even a hundred years later. Therefore, as an introductory book, it should be practical, written in a clear and accessible manner, easy to master, and thus appeal to the general public. Without basic training in fundamental skills, any so-called advanced studies later would be like mirages.
Content: During the long process of the development and maturation of regular script, different styles and schools emerged, leaving us with a variety of forms and vibrant expressions in regular script. The regular script of the Han Dynasty is now untraceable, but the Northern and Southern Dynasties period was a time of growth for regular script. Famous calligraphers of that era included Zhong Yao, Wang Xizhi, and Wang Xianzhi. Zhong Yao, building on the foundation of the late Han Dynasty, refined regular and clerical scripts, further reducing the clerical script elements and bringing regular script to its basic form. His surviving works include the Xuan Shi Table. After the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the period of division between the Northern and Southern Dynasties began, and different styles also emerged in calligraphy.
