After graduating from university in 1976, he worked as an editor for the magazines "Shaanxi Literature" and "Yanhe." He served as the Vice President of the Shaanxi Writers' Association. Lu Yao began publishing works in 1973. He is the author of the novel "Ordinary World," the short story collection "Contemporary Chronicle," and others. "A Thrilling Scene" and "Life" won the National Excellent Middle Novel Award of the First and Second Sessions, respectively; "Ordinary World" won the Mao Dun Literature Prize of the Third Session.
