Maggie takes her daughter back to her long-estranged hometown to attend a funeral. It was by chance, yet also inevitable, that she reunited with her first love, Horace, after twenty years. Perhaps it was boredom with her ordinary married life, or perhaps the allure of her first love still lingered, she abandoned her husband and friends, wholeheartedly surrendering her body and soul to Horace.
However, his special background, the hardships of his upbringing, and numerous life changes had completely transformed Horace. He was selfish, obsessive, hostile to the world, and burned with an unquenchable fire of revenge. He arrogantly believed himself to be the master of the world. Naturally, beneath the rekindled flames of love, an insurmountable chill flowed, a love that would inevitably be extinguished by that ice.
This is a masterpiece hailed as the "Wuthering Heights" of New England, USA. It has received high praise and recommendations from the Oprah Book Club and has sold nearly 2 million copies to date.
