Features: Sketching is the foundation of plastic arts, the initial scaffolding of a grand artistic structure, and an indispensable step for a painter to climb to the peak of creation throughout their life. At every stage, it is essential to revisit and refine this step to progress steadily upward. Looking back on my twenty years of creative experience, each phase has left behind countless line drawings, sketches, and studies—some small sketches for creation, some experimental works for teaching, some demonstrations for students, some traces of emotional inspiration, and some mere pastimes to pass the time. Although the purposes varied, they all revealed reflections and research on form, composition, line construction, and spatial composition of the.
Single-line sketches (which we call "quick sketches" or "line drawings") are the most concise and direct means of expression. Without the complexity and redundancy of techniques and materials, without the long duration of the creative process, and without various constraints. Therefore, from the earliest cave paintings of primitive humans to modern industrial design, from the scribbles of a three-year-old to the precious manuscripts of world-class masters, from naive folk art to rigorous and luxurious court painting—all begin with simple lines.
In the long course of artistic practice, I have been fascinated by the endless variations of line expression and deeply attracted to the infinite possibilities offered by lines. The profound spiritual heritage of humanity and the height of eternal wisdom combined can create "miracles." The yearning for such "miracles" has become the driving force behind my continuous pursuit of line drawing.
