Features: "Beyond Self: My Black and White World" is the autobiography of Mr. Chen Zude, the former president of the Chinese Chess Academy who has recently stepped down. Is it just about chess? Zhuangzi attained enlightenment while cutting wood, slaughtering cattle, and catching cicadas, and experienced transcendent states of being. Everyone can interpret life through the work they do, and the highest realm of almost all labor is the realm of "transcending oneself," the realm of art. This is also what Chen Zude repeatedly emphasized as the meaning of being an ordinary person. This book is the autobiography of Mr. Chen Zude, a renowned nine-dan Go player in China. He is the founder of the "Chinese Style" opening and has won the national Go championship three times. He is also the person who led China to defeat Japanese nine-dan players. This book vividly records his Go career and his journey of competition; on a small Go board, golden cavalry leaps, each move and stance is no less intense than a battle on the sand, bringing to life the many famous Go national masters of that time before the readers. This book was written by the author while he was seriously ill in the hospital, allowing him to observe his life from a more transcendent and detached perspective with a calm mind; what is touching is that the author passionately narrates the care and support of the older generation of revolutionaries, such as Zhou Enlai, Chen Yi, and Fang Yi, for the development of Chinese Go, as well as his interactions with them. The book includes a large number of related photographs and Go game records, and is accompanied by comments from renowned figures such as Bing Xin on this book.
