What is neonatal hemolytic disease?

Patient's question:

This morning I went to the hospital to test my urine with morning urine and RH blood type and coagulation five items. The results showed: Hemolytic disease of the newborn test was weakly positive? What does this mean?

Doctor's answer:

This disease is primarily a hereditary genetic disorder caused by an allogenic immune response due to blood type incompatibility between mother and fetus. The dominant antigen inherited from the parents is one that the mother lacks. This antigen invades the mother's body, producing immune antibodies. These antibodies pass through the placental villi into the fetal blood circulation, where they agglutinate with fetal red blood cells, causing their destruction and leading to hemolysis. This results in anemia, edema, hepatosplenomegaly, and progressive severe jaundice shortly after birth, which may even lead to bilirubin encephalopathy.
