Most patients need facial muscle training to recover a natural smile. Facial is not usually caused by only one abnormal facial muscle; in most cases, muscles on one side of the face are more or less abnormal, so it is almost impossible to completely restore normal function through surgery. Plastic surgery can mostly only improve the appearance at rest, while botulinum toxin injections can achieve dynamic facial improvement, but it is still impossible to fully restore normal function. Since the effect of botulinum toxin is reversible, if any adverse reactions occur in the facial muscles after injection, they can usually recover within 5-6 months.
