Barotrauma

Patient's question:

One of my friends works in the aviation industry. Recently, for about a month, whenever the plane ascends, she often feels her ears are stuffy and experiences symptoms such as tinnitus, hearing loss, and nausea and vomiting. Due to the severity of her condition, she went to the hospital for a check-up and was diagnosed with barotraumatic otitis media. She really loves her current job and is very anxious.

Doctor's answer:

Civil aviation passengers should occasionally eat fruit and drink beverages during the flight, chew and swallow to promote the opening of the Eustachian tube, regulate air pressure, and it is prohibited to sleep when the plane descends. If there is discomfort in the ears, actively blow your nose or use a fire cupping net. If it still doesn't open, you can use ephedrine drops and then blow it again. For children, you can let them play musical instruments or breastfeed.
